PSHE curriculum
Summary:
PSHE is offered at KS3 to all students within the school and taught on a regular basis as part of the PSHE/Citizenship Department. It is also taught at a higher level to students at KS4 alongside a Level 1/2 Certificate in Preparation for Working Life.
Teaching/Delivery:
Teaching is provided by PSHE/Citizenship Tutors and based within the PSHE classroom on the first floor. Lessons and teaching are delivered through; teacher explanation and talks, directed reading or study, research, online videos, class debate/discussion and other interactive student activities. The overall aim is to provide a stimulating and varied approach to the study.
KS3 Topics/Subjects:
Selected from the PSHE Association’s specialist resources and include:
Introducing PSHE, Relationships and Sex, Drugs, Emotional Wellbeing, Healthy Lifestyle, Risk and Safety, Identity, Communities, Planning for the Future, Money and Me.
KS4 Topics/Subjects:
Selected from the PSHE Association’s specialist resources and include:
The Media, Healthy Choices, Emotional and Mental Health, Relationships, Diversity, Values, Consumerism, Personal Finance, The Future, Employability, Business and Enterprise.

(1 Paper – 80 marks)
Personal awareness, Healthy lifestyles for work-life balance, Relationships and the differences between people, The changing world of work, Applying for jobs and courses, Economic and financial aspects of life, Employment opportunities, Enterprise activities, Hazard identification at home, on the roads and at work.
Centre Assessed Component – Letter of Application, CV, Interview Preparation
Assessment:
At KS3 end of topic assessments with subject related questions are set to assist in establishing the level of students.
At higher level regular assessments are completed in lessons with exam style questions/practice exam papers to measure performance towards GCSE target grade.
