School Rules
At The Tutorial Foundation, we use our WASP rules to help keep school calm, safe and supportive for everyone.
W – Words are kind.
We speak to others in a respectful way.
A – Actions are respectful.
We treat people, property and the school environment with care.
S – Stay present in lessons.
Students are expected to attend lessons and remain in the agreed learning space, unless a member of staff has agreed otherwise.
P – Phones are not used during school hours.
Phones and personal devices must not be used during the school day, unless an agreed reasonable adjustment, medical need or safety arrangement is in place.
Students begin with an initial six-week trial period. During this time, and once a place is confirmed, students are expected to follow the school rules and work with staff to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
Where expectations are not met, behaviour codes may be recorded. These are used to help staff identify patterns, understand support needs and respond consistently.
If a pattern of behaviour causes concern, we will consider the next steps needed to support the student and maintain a safe learning environment. This may include mentor sessions, restorative conversations, discussions with parents/carers, reasonable adjustments, alternative timetables, changes to groups, off-site provision or out-of-school-hours provision.
Suspension may be used where there has been a serious breach of school expectations, or where the safety or welfare of students, staff or others has been compromised. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis, taking account of the incident, risk, safeguarding considerations, the student’s needs and any reasonable adjustments that may be required.
Examples of behaviour that may lead to suspension or further action include:
- leaving the school building or agreed area without permission, or entering restricted or unsafe areas;
- misusing fire exits or emergency equipment;
- bringing, possessing, using or supplying prohibited substances or items, including alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, vapes, nicotine products, lighters or matches;
- bringing or possessing weapons, replica weapons, bladed articles, or any item intended to threaten, harm or intimidate others;
- threatening, intimidating, bullying, discriminating against, or being aggressive towards staff or other students, including online;
- refusing to follow safety instructions on a school trip, during travel, or during an off-site activity;
- repeated refusal to follow reasonable staff instructions, where this creates a risk to safety, learning or the orderly running of the school.
This list is not exhaustive. Where a serious incident occurs that is not listed above, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) will decide the most appropriate response. Students are expected to follow reasonable staff instructions at all times so that everyone can learn and feel safe.
