History curriculum
Summary:
History is delivered at KS3 level to students at the School and taught on a regular weekly basis as part of the Humanities Department. Support is also given to those who wish to pursue the subject further for an Entry Level Certificate or AQA Units Awards.
Teaching/Delivery:
Teaching is provided on a regular basis by the appointed History Tutors. Lessons and teaching are delivered through; teacher explanation and talks, directed reading or study, research, online videos and class debate/discussion. The overall aim is to provide a stimulating and varied approach to the study.
KS3 Topics/Subjects:

- 1066 to 1558
- Britain’s Religious Beliefs
- The role of Parliament
- Crime & Punishment
- The Tudors
- Empire Building
- Both WWI & WWII
- Civil Rights at home and abroad incl the Suffragette Movement
KS4 Topics/Subjects:
OCR Entry Level Certificate; 1 Topic Test (30%) 1 Topic Test (30%) 1 Project Task (40%)

- Life in Nazi Germany
- Independently chosen biography presentation
KS4 Topics/Subjects:
AQA GCSE
- 1919-1939 The Interwar Years
- Health and the British People (1000yrs) Medicine
- The Elizabethan Era
Assessment:
At KS3 level, end of topic assessments with subject related questions are set to assist in establishing benchmark level of students. At higher level regular assessments are completed in lessons with exam-style questions/practice exam papers to measure performance towards either a GCSE, ELC target level or a Unit Award that follows the curriculum.
